Editorial Fellowship 

We are excited to announce the launch of a pilot Editorial Fellowship, designed to offer one editorial fellow the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, training, and mentorship in the worlds of long-form journalism, enterprise reporting, and narrative writing.

The ideal candidate is a tenacious mid-career journalist seeking to transition into editing roles or an experienced and creative editor looking to sharpen their editing skills. 

This is a 6-month full-time (40 hours/week), paid fellowship based in Beirut, Lebanon, with a hybrid work schedule.

At the end of the program, the fellow will have the opportunity to join The Public Source as staff editor.


Responsibilities

The Editorial Fellow will be involved in every aspect — editorial, visual, stylistic, managerial, and creative — of producing a typical issue of The Public Source. Responsibilities include managing submissions and pitches, researching and developing story ideas, providing feedback to junior journalists, commissioning and editing articles, corresponding with contributing writers, proofreading, copy editing and fact-checking. The fellow will also help maintain editorial calendars and establish editorial priorities.

Qualifications

- Journalism Experience – A minimum of 5 to 7 years as a journalist and/or editor 
- Excellent Research, Writing & Editing Skills
- Language Skills – A superb command of the English language and fluency in Arabic 
- Communication Skills – Respectful, timely, and thoughtful communication in person and online
- Organizational & Time Management Skills – Ability to manage yourself and our shared workload efficiently and effectively
- Flexible Thinking – Ability to easily adapt to changes and find creative solutions to challenges

Duration
This is a 6-month working editorial fellowship, starting in mid-July 2024 and ending in mid-January 2025.

Monthly Salary 
$2,000-$3,000 (commensurate with experience)

Deadline
We will be scheduling interviews with shortlisted candidates on a rolling basis and will integrate the first qualified candidate into our publication.  

Location
Applicants must be based in Lebanon.

Open Call for Contributors 

We invite editors, writers, and experienced or aspiring investigative journalists to join us as contributors. 

Applicants are asked to send a resume, a brief cover letter explaining their interest in collaborating with The Public Source, and a writing sample. 

We’re always looking for curious and passionate contributors with great research, reporting, or editing skills — and the ability to be self-disciplined while working collaboratively.
